Spring 2007 Colorways

I’m boring even myself with all of these posts on ethics, so today I’ll post some fun stuff! Over the course of the last month, we’ve been receiving our Spring inventory. Whee! This batch is particularly special to me because it’s the first time I’ve ventured into the world of textile design. We’re all very excited about the results - and the fact that they’re 100% organic cotton, with recycled polyester batting and low impact dyes, makes it that much better (read more about organic processing).

Based on customer feedback, we’ve moved completely to a gorgeous silky sateen fabric for our Ring Slings. This 250 threadcount combed cotton has a lovely drape and moves easily through the rings when adjusting. For spring, we used a hand-drawn paisley print, in red on stone and chocolate brown on sky blue:

Mango Stone Ellaroo Sling print
Mango Sky Ellaroo Sling

Lovely, no? Did you know that the paisley is based on the shape of the mango (hence the name Mango Stone and Mango Sky for these two colorways, respectively)?

For the Mei Tai and Mei Hip (which share colorways and prints), we dug into our archive of popular but discontinued prints, and worked on resurrecting something that evokes the same feelings. I’m very proud of the results:

Helsinki Ellaroo Mei Hip
Osaka Ellaroo Mei Hip
Pismo Ellaroo Mei Hip

Helsinki, Osaka, and Pismo (can you tell I’m dreaming of world travel?) are just stunning on brushed organic cotton canvas. Helsinki and Pismo, along with the Mango Ring Slings, are hand block printed (I’ll post on the process in the next couple of weeks). Osaka is screen printed.

What I love most about our spring line is that we didn’t have to compromise on fabrics and colors just because we insist on organics and sustainability. Let there be color!
